19,000 Trained in Business Support Programs – Dr. Awal

The Minister for Business Development Dr. Ibrahim Awal has said that about 19,000 youths have been trained by his Ministry in Business Support Programs in the past two years.

This is according to Hon. Minister, his ministry has set out to build the capacity of Young men across the country to enable them to establish their own businesses and create jobs for young people. While giving a breakdown of the Nineteen Thousand (19,000) trainees, the Minister said this year, Seven Thousand (7000) youths were in 2018 while another 12, 000 have been trained this year.

“Last year, we trained some Seven Thousand (7000) and this year, we have just completed the training of Twelve thousand (12,000) young people. The Training was meant to among other things, build capacities of these young people to run and manage their own businesses”.

Speaking at the Meet the Press session organized by the Ministry of Information, Dr. Awal further stated that, areas of focus of the training program were sourcing funding, marketing, accounting and bookkeeping practices, and leveraging from influential financial sources.

Over a thousand three hundred (1,300) of the trainees were given funding to enable them to establish their businesses and scale up the operation of already existing businesses. The Minister announced that Four thousand (4,000) jobs have been created by these funded businesses. He further announced that the Ministry intends to support Three thousand (3,000) startups with financial support at an interest of 10 Percent.
