Awomefia Appointed Sole Mediator In Bimbila Chieftaincy Dispute.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has appointed the Awomefia of the Anlo Traditional Area, Torgbui Sri III, as lead Mediator towards the resolution of the Bimbila Chieftaincy disputes. 

Torgbui Sri III was presented with his instrument of appointment at an extraordinary emergency meeting of Anlo Traditional Council held at Anloga District Assembly Hall on Thursday, August 29, 2019. This was done by a high powered government delegation led by the Minister for National Security, Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah.. Other members of the delegation were Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Information, Hon. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Salifu Saed, Northern Regional Minister and Hon Dr. Archibald Letsa, Volta Regional Minister

In his remarks, Hon. Kan Dapaah extolled the virtues of the Awomefia as an experienced, peaceful and trustworthy traditional ruler and statesman, which distinguished him for appointment as the sole mediator in the Bimbila chieftaincy dispute. He also conveyed the President’s assurance of support for him to execute the task ahead of him.

In presenting the instrument of appointment to the Awomefia, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah divulged that government has so much confidence in the ability and competence of the revered Awomefia to bring the dispute to an amicable end.

On his side, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs was full of joy for the good things that President Akufo-Addo is doing for the Anloland. He recounted the creation of the Anloga District Assembly, the recent sod-cutting for the Keta Harbour and of which the appointment of the Awomefia as a sole mediator in the Bimbila Chieftaincy dispute on top of it is something that the good of Anlo will reciprocate in the 2020 elections.

The Northern Regional Minister could not mince words when he described the choice of Torgbui Sri III as the best to have happened in the efforts at resolving the Bimbila Chieftaincy dispute. He said the Anlos and Northerners share a lot in common coupled with the fact that Torgbui Sri III has had working experience in the Northern Region as a Regional Police Commander.

In his acceptance speech, Torgbui Sri III was full of appreciation to the President for the honour done him. He pledged to work assiduously and diligently to justify the confidence reposed in him.

It could be recalled that a fortnight ago, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana announced the decision of government to appoint the Awomefia to lead the mediation to resolve the decades-old Bimbila Chieftaincy disputes since the 2018 Supreme Court ruling to bring the dispute to an end hit a snag.

Present at the meeting were the Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Hon Makafui Kofi Woanyah, MDCEs and Chiefs from the Anlo enclave.
