Vice President, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia, is scheduled to tour Old Fadama, popularly known as Sodom and Gomorrah. This is according to sources close to the office of the Vice President.
The visit, scheduled for Thursday, 19th September, 2019 sources say to enable the Vice President meet and interact with Influential and opinion leaders of the community as government progresses with plans for the redevelopment of the area. The Vice President will also use the opportunity to receive grievances and concerns from residents of the area ahead of the commencement of the redevelopment project.
This will be the first time a sitting President or Vice President has will be visiting Old Fadama.
This development was preceded by the construction of the Agbogbloshie road, which was the major challenge faced by the residents of Old Fadama.
Situated along the Odaw River and the Korle Lagoon, Old Fadama is home to more than 50,000 people from diverse background across the country.
Regarded as a slum, the settlement is characterized by dilapidated housing, overcrowding and poverty among others.
