October is the month set aside for the celebration of breast cancer awareness.
Breast cancer awareness is an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment. Supporters hope that greater knowledge will lead to earlier detection of breast cancer, which is associated with higher long-term survival rates, and that money raised for breast cancer will produce a reliable, permanent cure.
Speaking at this year’s Breast cancer awareness initiative dubbed the “NUFU” festival at the netball court of the University of Ghana Legon is Dr. Lili Paemka who expressed the important of the awareness creation. ” As part of my research I noticed that there’s high morality associated with breast cancer among Ghanaian women, which is significantly higher than you’ll see in the western world.”
From last year we started to have an annual celebration of breast, focusing on breast and the importance of breast and the fact that the breast supports the whole human existance”.

The Geneticist at the University of Ghana further stated that, “Instead of focusing mainly of the research we found a way to impart the general population”. Raising up break cancer awareness will help early detection which is the corner stone to treat breast cancer, therefore we here to offer free breast exams, quizzes,discussion and to keep fit as well knowing that one of the risk factors of breast cancer is not being active.
She further concluded by advicing the general public on breast cancer awareness. ” I’ll encourage all to love their breast and do your self breast exams both male and females because males can also have breast cancer”.
