The program which took place over the weekend saw a multitude of over 5,000 students throng the major streets of Winneba, clothed in the traditional NPP colours in support of the party and the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The walk has been recorded as the first of it’s kind in the country in terms of numbers by any political group in the tertiary institutions solely by students. The executive of TESCON-UEW led by Eben Nii Narh Ogyatey, put in their all to make the program a record breaking one.

This feat was chalked as the executive put out a relentless efforts in consolidating the grounds for the growth of the party on campus through series of activities.

The semester’s activities were preceded by a door-to-door visitation in the early days of the semester to welcome all level 100 students to the University and propagate the policies of the government and also the need to be a member of TESCON-UEW. This activity saw a rocketed membership registration by over 100% for freshers and about 60% for continuing students. This was evident in the general meeting held fortnight ago and attended by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Hon. Hawa Koomson amongst others, that saw the venue, South Assembly Hall far too small to house members that attended the meeting.

He has supported the association with several interventions including a scholarship fund for TESCON-UEW with a seed money of GHS20,000.00 with a promise of more. He has also instituted a free NHIS card registration and renewals for all members.

The street campaign walk that commenced at exactly 6:00am on Saturday, 30th November, 2019, saw party faithfuls, all being students march from Simpa roundabout at the North campus to the South campus, through Central campus and back to the North campus where a kenkey party took place.

In attendance together with the MP were the Central Regional Youth Organizer, Anthony Sackey and his deputy, as well as the president of TESCON- UCC and TESCON- CCHN, Winneba.

In his speech to the students, Hon. Afenyo-Markin urged all students to be agents of the party wherever they find themselves and take their academic work seriously. He also charged the executives of TESCON-UEW to keep up with their performance but strive to achieve more.
