Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has declared an indefinite strike following the failure of Government to fully migrate senior members of Technical Universities onto the single spine pay structure of public universities.
According to them, The Government sought the intervention of the National Labour Commission(NLC) after failing to reach any consensus with the leadership of TUTAG after series of meetings.
President of the association Dr. Solomon.A.Keelson, (TUTAG) disclosed that the National Labour Commission promised to pay all the generic allowances payable to TUTAG members who qualify at the end of December 2019 which includes electricity, rent, security, car maintenance, off-campus but salaries of December 2019 were paid without the allowance above.

He added that the strike action shall affect, teaching, Investigation and marking of scripts and they will call off the strike only upon the fulfilment of the National Labour Commission ruling of 28th October 2019.
It must be emphasized that Government through National Council for Tertiary Education(NCTE) is trying everything to make Technical Universities are not fully migrated onto the Single Spine Pay Structure of public universities ‘he said’.
He Said, the National Labour Commission invited both parties to a hearing on 28th October 2019 and give an assurance of the payment of responsibility, entertainment and fuel allowance shall be paid to deserving officeholders in December 2019 and the back pay of the above allowances, effective August 2020 shall be paid in January and February 2020.
Some of the Students at the Accra Technical University College where the Press Conference was held in an interview express their worry about the strike action by TUTAG as them about to write their exams this week.
