Story by Dominic Ghansah
Former Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr. Ekow Spio Gabrah has called on students to start thinking of ways to create their own jobs since the size of Ghana’s economy cannot employ the number of graduates coming out of the country’s Tertiary institutions.
He made this call while addressing students at the International Day for Education 2020 at the Achimota Senior High School.
According to Dr. Spio Gabrah, this has become important because the size of the Country’s Economy cannot employ all its graduates therefore the there is the need for students to create their own jobs as a solution to the high rate of unemployment being witnessed.
” If you decide to wait for Government employment, you may have to wait for 4 or 5 or even 7 years to be employed. So most of you will have to start thinking about how to create your own jobs”, he said.
The event which was held on the theme “Learning for People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace” focused on bringing the knowledge of work and work environment to School children while they are still in children.
Participating schools included Forces SHS, Accra Wesley Girls SHS, St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, PRESEC SHS and host Achimota SHS.
