Lawyer Abraham Amaleba, who is a legal practitioner and a member of the Opposition NDC has disclosed to the public that there must be an election this year coming December 7 else Ghana will run into a constitutional crisis.
According to him, the Constitution of Ghana doesn’t elaborate what will happen when there is no election because it wasn’t in the mind of the people who wrote the Constitution that there will be anything that can stop Ghana from haven election in an election year.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Ameyaw-Krompeh of Righteous radio Techiman, he hinted that the Constitution then expound that by 6th January,2021 the President, vice president, speaker of parliament and members of parliament, their tenure will come to an end.
“The constitution did not say anything about what should be done when we are not able to organise an election, maybe the drafters of the constitution did not see any such situation coming”.
Finally, lawyer Amaleba disclosed that if in case election is not held this year due to the pandemic, then on the 6th January, 2021 whoever is the Chief Justice will become the acting President until election takes place.
