The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic (GPCC), is appealing to President Akuffo – Addo to lift the ban on social gatherings,especially churches.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo – Addo announced a two – week extension of a on social gathering to intensify against the spread of the new coronavirus in the country.
He announced the extension on Sunday (10th May ) night in his latest broadcast to nation on measures to combat the spread of COVID – 19. Ghana first introduced the ban on social gathering on March 15th, after reporting its first two confirmed index cases of the pandemic three day earlier.
An executive member of GPCC, Bishop Noi Mensah is asking government to formulate safety guidelines for churches to allow them to resume church activities.
In his views,churches have proper structures and capacity to roll out effective social distancing and safety measures.Bishop Mensah however noted that the call is not grounded on financial constraints posed by restriction on social gathering placed on Churches. Besides, the GPCC is ready to dialogue on the issues.
Meanwhile, expressing his views on the suggested by the GPCC for President Akuffo – Addo to ease the restriction on churches activities, Leader of the Spiritual and Prophets Council, Prophet Nakoa Jamson Ansah says considering the rate of spread of the virus, it will be suicidal to such a call and is premature for the lift of ban church activities in the country.
He said the spread is escalating and more that 80% of cases have been recorded in the Greater Accra and Kumasi.
“At the moment it’s is important that the nation focuses on defeating COVID. -19 which is destroying the world not the lifting the ban on social gathering or church.
Prophet Nakoa, made this remarks at the residence of the national Chief Iman Sheikh Dr Nuhu Osman Sharabutu ,after donating couples of food stuffs ,which includes,30 bag of Rice,10 bags of sugar,10 gallons of cooking oil,10 cartons of Milo ,10 cartons of Milk and 10 boxes tomatoes paste to the office of the national Chief Iman to enhanced and boost their energy at this period of holy Ramadan.
