What the Nana Addo Government Has Done This Week

The Government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has announced government’s performance this week through the Government This Week publications. 

The Performance which spans from June 1 to June 5, 2020 spells out significant projects and policies executed by government within a specific week, stating specifically the projects done by government through Ministries, Departments and Agencies. 

The following are the specifics of the announcement by Government This Week (#GTW).

First on the List is the Clearance given for the recruitment of 27,367 staff for Pre-Tertiary sector bringing the total number of recruited staff since 2017 to 93,724. While a total of 6,178 has also been receited in tertiary sector since 2017. 

Second is a 60 Million Dollar agreement signed between the Government of Ghana and Amandi Holdings Limited for the Construction of sections of the Western Railway line between Takoradi Habour and Hini Valley. This is part of efforts to establish a strong rail sector and reduce the pressure on our roads. 

Third is the Distribution of 1 Million Cocoa Seedlings and 120,00 bags of Fertilizers to farmers in Wassa East. Farmers in Sefwi Wiawso and Akontombra Districts also received 99,468 bags of Fertilizers. 

Fourthly, Government has completed 1,024 Affordable Housing Project at Asakore Mampong in the Ashanti Region. The Project has been named after Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

Fifth on the List, Government has increased Professional Teacher Allowance to 1,200 cedis and 600 ceeis for Non-Teaching Staff. This is to encourage professional development and career development among staff of the Education sector.

Number Six is that, Government has cleared 900 million cedis owed contractors working on E-Block projects inherited from the Mahama Administration. 

Seventh is an approval for the purchase of about 130 million Dollars worth of trains starting with ordering 35 standard and narrow-guage trains this month. The trains are to be delivered in 18 months. 

Eighthly, work has begun on the construction of 26km Banso-Banka road in Asante-Akim South Municipality.

Nine on the List is the commencement of Construction work on 30 new State-of-the-Art Community ICT Centers accross the country. 100 existing centers will also be renovated across the country. 

Tenthly, to boost production of Cashew, 200,000 and 100,000 nursed seedlings have been distributed to farmers in Bole and Dormaa East Districts respectively.

Eleventh on the List is 3,321 classrooms built in Senior High across Ghana since 2017 representing an increase of about 380% on number built under previous government.

Finaly on the List the local production of 3.5 million Nose masks, 4.4 million gloves and 400,000 other Personal Protective Equipment. Government is also engaging other manufacturers to boost local production.
