The Opposition National Democratic Congress has filed a petition at an Accra High Court challenging the decision of the Electoral Comission to establish registration centers at the Secondary Schools for the Registration of students who have newly turned 18.
According to the suit, the plaintiffs are praying the court for an order for interlocutory injunction against the defendant from organising or taking steps in furtherance of registratering Senior high schools.
The argument of the the plaintiffs are that the ECs refusal to gazzette such registration centers as contained in Gazzette No 77 of 26th May, 2020 makes such registration centers unconstitutional and should be declared null and void.
It also prayed the court to include orders it deem fit.
The affidavit in Support of the motion is expected to be moved on Monday, July 20, 2020.
The Electoral Commission has faced several suits against the NDC before the commencement of the compilation of voters ID card. Per this suit, it seem that the Commission will have to prepare itself for further battle in the courts.
