12 Million Cedis Spent on Provision of Hot Meals

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori -Atta has clarified government spent 12 Million out of the budgeted 54 Million cedis during the lockdown period.

The Finance Minister speaking at the discussion of the suplimentary budget in Parliament today, Ken Ofori-Atta disclosed that, not all 54 million cedis was spent on the provision of hot meals to poor less privileged persons during the three weeks lockdown period. He continued to explain that, 40.3 million cedis of the total amount was spent on the provision of raw uncooked food items.

“Government budgeted 40.3 million cedis for basic and uncooked food items. We spent 42.2 million, this 12 million spent on hot meals with the 42 millions spent on uncooked food items that gave total 54 million cedis as stated in the mid-year budget review”, the Minister stated.

Government has come under intense criticism from members of the Opposition NDC for spending 54 million cedis after the finance Minister presented the mid-year budget review. 

Parliamentary however has approved 11.8 billion cedis to be spent by budget for the last quarter of the year.
