COVID-19: MOH Receives PPEs From Vamed Engineering

The Ministry of Health (MOH) , received quantities of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), and other medical consumables, worth 40,000 Euros from VAMED Engineering , to support Ghana’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PPEs include 100 manual resuscitators, 500 each of nose masks, goggles and protective suits, and 35 thermometer guns.

Mr Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari, the MOH Acting Chief Director, who received the donation on behalf of the Minister, applauded the company for the assistance, saying it was timely as PPEs were COVID-19 consumables that needed to be replenished as quickly as possible.

He recounted Ghana’s long-standing relationship with VAMED Engineering, especially in the development of numerous healthcare infrastructure across the country, and said the partnership had grown stronger by the years.

Ghana, he said, remained grateful to the company for the sustained partnership and also the fact that the present donation would go a long way to enhance the safety of both healthcare professionals and patients.

Mr Albert Tackie, the Branch Manager for VAMED Engineering, explained that the support came from the company’s branch in Austria who, after seeing the construction of the magnificent edifice to house Ghana’s first Infectious Disease Centre at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, decided to airlift the items to support the facility’s operations.

He confirmed that 20 years of partnership between the company and the MOH, had resulted in the development of over 40 healthcare infrastructure across the country, and expressed the hope that the bond would remain firm in the ensuing years

.Dr Kwesi Asabre, the MOH Director of Human Resources, called on other private sector partners and individuals to emulate the gesture to ensure adequate stock of PPEs for frontline healthcare workers.

He said the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic was a huge one which cannot be won by government alone without the support from all sectors of the country.
