Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on President Akufo-Addo to resign now as president for failing to properly handle the Galamsey menace as he promised.
According for the Flagbearer of the NDC, the NPP administration poorly handled the issue of illegal mining across the country as the water bodies remain worse than it was when he took over.
Mr. Mahama alleged that NPP activist have now taken over the illegal mining trade and depriving ordinary Ghanaians of their livelihood. He further alleged that, party members and activists are mining illegally with impunity even in forests.
“You see a forest, just walk into it and you will see Galamsey is going on. DCEs, Party Chairmen, they are all doing Galamsey”, he alleged.
Responding to the question of his party members also engaging in Galamsey under his tenure, Mr. Mahama stated that he was not aware of government official being involved in Galamsey during his term as president.
He stated that if Akufo-Addo promised to put his Presidency on the line, he shouldn’t resign now because he has failed.
