Update on Reopening of Schools for 2021 Academic Year – GES/MOE

As a follow up to the president’s directives on schools reopening in his 21st Covid 19 address on Sunday,3rd January 2021 ,Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amenkwa , Director General of Ghana Education Service also address the media on how arrangements will be carried out for the reopening of schools across all levels and other related educational matters, this took place 4th January,2021 at Ghana Education Service Conference Room at Accra

Addressing the media, Prof.Kwasi Opoku Amenkwa , Director General of Ghana Education revealed all schools will be re-opening this month as the president addressed early on, he presented a academic calendar for 2021 that shows dates for reopening and their vacation period
SHS 3 and SHS 2 (green and single track will reopen on January 15 2021
SHS 1 and SHS 2(gold track reopen on March 10, 2021
JHS 1-3 will also open January 18,2021 while KG1 to Primarily 6 will open January 18, 2021

He also touched on the issue of PPEs and Disinfection, stating that all schools will be disinfected before academic work begins.

“Provisions has been made for all schools to receive a Veronica Bucket, Soaps, Hand Sanitizers and Paper Tissue, Washable and Reusable Facemask for all students and staffs in the schools , he also caution all schools that their will be no outside activities when school starts because of the COVID-19”.

He added that there they will be no promotion when schools re-open but the students will be allowed to move to next class and still be learning what they were not able to learn to make up for the backlog. He stated that his outfit has provided more contact hours for the students to catch up what they lost because of covid-19

He concluded by saying all JHS students will be running a semester program and all students who are learning online should continue.
