The Member of Parliament for Amasaman Constituency, Hon. Akwasi Afrifa-Mensa has welcomed the resettlement of onion sellers and scrap dealers from Agbogbloshie in the Central Business District of Accra to Adjen-Kotoku in the Ga-West Municipality.
Speaking at a durbar of Chiefs and opinion leaders of the Ga State, Representatives of Onion Traders and people of Adjen-Kotoku at the new site on Monday, June 28, 2021, Hon. Afrifa-Mensa applauded the Greater Accra Regional Minister for his unrelenting commitment to bring to fruition an initiative started by former president Kufuor some 15 years ago.
“This vision of the former President [Kufuor] couldn’t materialize until this year when the hardworking and visionary Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey assumed office. As part of his vision, he has decided to make sure that, the long awaited onion market in Adjen-Kotoku see the light of the day”, he noted.
He added, “As your Member of Parliament, I fully support the initiative of the Honourable Regional Minister and I hope with the relocation of the market here, Adjen-Kotoku and her surrounding communities will get its share of the government development agenda.”
In a related development, the Regional Minister, on behalf of the central government handed over a cash donation of GHs500, 000 to a Parliamentary Joint Committee as transportation fare to help the the onion sellers, scrap dealers and butchers within the Agbogbloshie market to cart their wares to the new site.
Hon. Henry Quartey also mentioned that Thursday, July 1, 2021 is the deadline for the relocation.
